courgette plant, a pair of hands full of strawberries, edible meanwood volunteers at a planting session, planting a tree

Edible Meanwood are a group of local volunteers who grow food in public spaces in Meanwood, Leeds, which is free for anyone to pick🍎🥕🌿

We create productive, beautiful, wildlife friendly spaces to enhance our local area, feed more people and build community.

Our current sites include a food forest and vegetable garden at Meanwood Community Centre, planters outside Waitrose and in the precinct, fruit trees by the beck in Meanwood Park, and Parkside Orchard.

And we are planning on planting lots more fruit trees and edibles for the whole community, as well as teaching people how to grow their own food at home.

Get involved

As well as providing a free source of food, we share growing and foraging skills through our volunteer sessions and free workshops.

🌿We meet up once a week during the spring and summer, and once a month in the cooler seasons, and everyone is welcome (children welcome with an adult).

Normal session times are Thursday 6-7pm in the warmer months, first Saturday of the month 1-3pm all year, but do please get in touch for up to date info (see WhatsApp and mailing list below)

🌿No experience is necessary, come along and learn- but if you do have gardening skills, that’s great as well.

🌿We are a friendly group, and aim to be as inclusive as possible.

If you have any special requirements please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
